Marcia Yost, Music Center Executive Director

It is hard to believe that 10 years of magnificent music was celebrated at the Music Center last year. Already the legacy this facility is bringing to our community, county and state is evident in what is happening in this extraordinary place. Goshen College music has grown greatly with new dreams fulfilled in the choral and instrumental programs, including the addition of the Women’s World Music Choir and the Men’s Chorus. The Goshen College Orchestra continues to grow and Lavender Jazz brings excellent jazz to our campus. The wonderful Festival of Carols has become a much-anticipated highlight of the holiday season.

The reach of this facility increases exponentially as we look to the Community School of the Arts (CSA). There are now two Youth Choirs and two Youth Honors Orchestras as well as many private lessons.  The thriving Music Together® program along with our many other CSA offerings bring the gift of music to hundreds of children and families in our county each week!

The Performing Arts Series continues to bring professional musicians to our community, who are in absolute awe of our concert hall.  These are world-class performers like Bobby McFerrin, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Chanticleer and the Julliard String Quartet. More than a few of the incredible musicians who have visited here in the past 10 years have named Sauder Concert Hall among the top 5 concert halls in which they have performed!

The dream continues.  As we move into the next decade there is energized excitement about what we will offer at the Music Center.

  • We will continue to dream to make music the birthright of every child in our county.
  • The “Shout for Joy” and “Rejoice” youth choirs will grow with the potential addition of a countywide high school honors choir.
  • The Youth Honors Orchestras will continue to enhance the music experiences of young instrumentalists toward becoming lifelong musicians.
  • We will continue to bring concerts to our community that will thrill, inspire and entertain, through the GC Music Department, CSA and the Performing Arts Series.
  • We will expand our work of reaching young children with the power of the arts through Acorn scholarships, collaborations with Head Start and others.

However, the dream could become something even bigger.  We have the opportunity to become a music education epicenter – a place where we understand the value of the arts for everyone from the very young to the many seniors in our community.  We have the passion to train our children to become the creative “out of the box” thinkers of the future.  Not only as tomorrow’s music educators but also as the educated music consumers and the compassionate world citizens who will learn to appreciate our collective humanity through the arts and the beauty all around us through music.

Please consider joining us as we reach into the next decade.  We are making a bold commitment to the arts and all that this means to the quality of life around us. What we could do here together will have life changing results for all of us.  It is a phenomenal opportunity to continue to reach for a vision that is well on its way to being something that is entirely unique – a vision that will place the power of the arts at the center of education.

Please make a gift to celebrate the past and help us reach into the future! Your gift is tax deductible and will be used entirely to sustain the meaningful work of the Goshen College Music Center.

Sincerely,

Marcia Yost, Executive Director
