
The Edvard Grieg Society of the Great Lakes is pleased to announce the 2026 Conference “Grieg and the Schumanns: Intersecting in Leipzig — Exploring the Influence of Robert & Clara Schumann on Edvard Grieg” will take place at Goshen College on May 8-9, 2026. This year’s conference features two concerts, several lectures, and two competitions: Pre-College Piano and Pre-Professional / Professional Voice. Applications for both competitions are live and available on the website. The Pre-College Piano Competition offers $1600+ in prize money and features three divisions: “Arrangements” (ages 13 & under, allows arranged works by Grieg or Schumann), Junior (ages 13 & under) and Senior (ages 14-18, precollege). Piano registration closes March 31. The Voice competition, offering $2200 in prize money, had a pre-screening round and is now closed, with 4-8 finalists to be chosen and invited to compete in Goshen on May 9.
The concerts will feature three Guest Artists: on Friday May 8 at 7:30pm, Austin Huntington, the principal cellist of the Indianapolis Symphony, and soprano Jeni Houser, currently on faculty at Notre Dame, will perform in Rieth Hall with pianists Gregory Martin and Luke Norell. On Saturday May 9 at 5:00pm, soprano Laura Loge from the Northwest Grieg Society.
